Hi Keith,

Thanks for the comments and I'm glad you liked the posting. It's funny as I don't often think of myself as "librarian" per say as the work I do is very different from what people traditionally think of as a "librarian's work". However, as an MLIS holder I believe in the concept of libraries and the benefits they provide to the communities they serve.

Kevin Mitnick is a great speaker, I urge you if you ever get a chance to hear him talk that you do so. Very engaging and entertaining!

Thanks for reading! Leala
PS out of curiosity, how did you come across my blog?

It's great to hear that you attended the conference. Librarians are on the forefront of keeping information free and available it's good to see some attending these kind of conferences.

Currently in San Diego they are trying to build a new library but in the face of the current budget cuts its meeting a lot of resistance. Some people are saying that lwith the internet, libraries are irrelevant. Your post does a good job of highling the problem with this theory.

PS

I read recently that Kevin Mitnick can't even keep a telephone number due to the number of hackers that are stalking him. How was his talk?

Interesting article. I too am fond of the intellectual curiosity and playful experimentation of this group. This conference was great and these hackers, in particular, are sophisticated. I like their open-source ethos too. So, which one are you in the photo?
